First time in a kayak. 13+ miles into the wind. Earned fifth place. Terrified of wakes, or flipping it in front of a /4 mile long coal barge slipping by at 25 mph. Too scared to grab the snacks in the boat behind me. It took 5, 5 1/2 hours from Brownsville to Belle Vernon on n the Monongahela river. Stunning views and friendly boat culture all the way.
