Completed Oil Painting: Tanooki Mario and Kitsuni Luigi

This is a commissioned pair of images. I am going to take a background from Super Mario 3 D World. EDIT: I chose a simple 2D backdrop from the original gameplay. I played Super Mario Bros as a child, too. It’s practically furniture.

A week or so later I added some dark colors. I have an idea for the background, but it will take a while.

Then we had a problem with forest fire smoke. I had no ventilation. It was the worst. It left a greasy haze on everything, made you choke and sneeze. I got back to it today after eight hours of rain.

The last coat will be mixed with a medium to improve brightness, trap light within the pigment.

Two applications later, I feel I need to move on to some other work. I used my special batch of linseed oil. The color is a bit deeper and more oily. I’m going for E. Munch just a hair.

Godzilla intermission. Now with music.

Toned the bushes. Spent time on the landscape. I made it unnecessarily detailed. Incidentally, the plants are just green clouds slipped below the horizon a bit. Clouds excluded here.
