Cathedral of Learning in Pittsburgh, Pa

I love Gothic architecture. This building is located in Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It sort of reminds me of the Ghostbusters Building. I was eating lunch at Conflict Kitchen – the seasonal theme right now is Cuba, so the restaurant features ethnocentric, positive menu items and a newspaper of thoughtful commentary about Cuba, taken from interviews with real Cubans. I had a ensalada Cubana and some tostones with a sour bright sauce. So, in the shadow of the American century, I had some snacks and dug Cuba.
This building is the second tallest Gothic structure in the Western Hemisphere. It was built in the 1930s. It features a common hall with fifty foot ceiling and authentic load-bearing arches. The room is a fantasy of 20th century architecture, and covers an acre. I didn’t go inside because I wanted to get some coffee.
Ghosts all up in my camera.
